CILSS Unites Food Security Stakeholders to Tackle Challenges in Africa

Ouagadougou: CILSS brings together stakeholders to address food security challenges in Africa. Under the auspices of the Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS), food security stakeholders from the Sahel, West Africa, and Cameroon are taking part in the Regional Consultation on Agricultural and Food Outlook in the Sahel and West Africa (PREGEC) from September 15 to 17 in the Burkinabe capital.

According to Burkina Information Agency, in a context marked by climate change, insecurity, and population growth, experts and political decision-makers, with the support of technical and financial partners, will analyze the challenges linked to food and nutritional security. The Minister Delegate for Animal Resources, Amadou Dicko, who also chaired the opening ceremony of the meeting, expressed his optimism that the diversity and quality of the expertise brought together constitutes a major asset. “I am convinced that this meeting will lead to pragmatic, consensual conclusions that meet the expectations raised by our different countries for achieving food security,” he said.

Mr. Dicko stressed that in the face of extreme climate phenomena, it is important to strengthen and adapt the mobilization of the necessary resources in order to have qualified expertise, able to propose appropriate actions to stem the harmful effects of climate variability and change. For the representative of the CILSS Executive Secretary, Dr. Hubert N’Djafa Ouaga, this regional consultation provides a framework for exchanges on opportunities for agricultural innovation, agri-food processing, and regional cooperation to build sustainable food systems. It will also involve taking stock of the 2025-2026 agro-pastoral campaign, from the start of the season until the end of August 2025, he added.
