CCS proposes reduction in VAT to 10% in beverages and 6% in food

The Sotavento Chamber of Commerce (CCS) will propose to the Government the reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT) to 10 percent (%) in beverages and 6% in food.

The proposal was announced by the newly sworn-in president of CCS, Marco Rodrigues, late on Monday afternoon, after meeting with the operators in restaurant area and alike.

He said that the restaurant sector is still going through a complicated phase, and now there is light at the end of the tunnel regarding to tourism with the reopening of restaurants, entrepreneurs are faced with the fall of the lay off, moratoriums and the increase in VAT for the sector.

In view of the sector has “enormous weaknesses and employs many people”, it is necessary to see quickly with the Government what conditions can be created in order to be able to bring this sector of activity to a successful close. Marcos Rodrigues considered that at this time VAT should be 10% for beverages and 6% for food.
