Cabo Verde will have to apply for new funding for projects in Tarrafal and the Cidade Velha – IPC

The president of the IPC said Monday that Cabo Verde will have to apply for new financing to continue the projects to value the architectural heritage in the former Concentration Camp of Tarrafal and the historic center of Cidade Velha.

The president of the Institute of Cultural Heritage (IPC), Hamilton Fernandes, gave this information on the sidelines of the ‘online’ event to disseminate the results of the SOSTURMAC project “Promoting sustainable tourism and heritage preservation in the Canary Islands and Cabo Verde”, co-financed by the European program Interreg MAC 2014-2020 in about two million euros (220 million escudos).

The project aims to revalue the natural and architectural heritage of the Canary Islands and Cabo Verde, from an energy and environmental point of view, favoring its preservation and providing added value to its sustainable and cultural tourism offer.

“In the first phase, the pilot experience was in the building of the City Hall of São Filipe, but is also already registered the Concentration Camp of Tarrafal de Santiago where we have already planned the way to introduce renewable energy as well as a pilot experience for the historic center of Cidade Velha, that is, we will have to apply for new funding with a view to the implementation of these two projects”, he referred.
