Cabo Verde makes history in its debut at the 2023 Handball World Cup with its first victory

The men's national handball team beat Uruguay by 33-25, during its debut at the 28th World Cup, which took place in the city of Gutenbergu, Sweden.

Considering that this is the first time that Cape Verde has emerged victorious in a World Cup match, the Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister for Youth and Sports, Carlos do Canto Monteiro, who was present on behalf of the Government of Cape Verde to accompany the debut of selection in the World Cup, he was proud and satisfied with the results so far.

“Our national men's handball team made a brilliant debut in its first game at the 2023 World Cup and this is Cape Verde's first victory in the history of the World Cup. So, as Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister for Youth and Sports, I am truly delighted with the victory of this game against Uruguay, in the Handball World Cup, which has had the support and engagement of Cape Verdeans around the world and all the support of the Government of Cape Green".

Carlos do Canto Monteiro congratulated the national team for its performance and also encouraged all Cape Verdeans to watch “with fervor” the other games, supporting the Blue Tubarões in this world championship, so that they continue to raise the country's flag around the world.

Cape Verde is included in Group C, which also includes teams from Sweden, Brazil and Uruguay. Therefore, the national team will compete again this Saturday, with Sweden.
