Cabo Verde is a peaceful country but geographically conducive to money laundering and terrorist financing – Minister

The Minister of Justice Joana Rosa defended Thursday in Praia that Cabo Verde is a peaceful country, but it is in a geographically conducive position to money laundering and terrorist financing.

The holder of the Justice department was speaking at a press conference, on the sidelines of a lecture held today by GIABA (Intergovernmental Group of Action against Money Laundering), in partnership with the Ministry of Justice, on the “Fight against Money Laundering and Combating Terrorist Financing (AML/CFT) at the University of Cabo Verde.

The lecture held for university students aims, according to the Minister, to bring to the students’ knowledge the issue of the problem not only national, but also worldwide which has to do with money laundering.

“It is a problem that needs to be addressed at university so that students can understand what money laundering is, why the State, or the international community has on its agenda the fight against money laundering, how organizations use illicit processes or products for certain purposes and circulate money at the market,” she explained.
