Cabo Verde finalizing new health research law to be approved later this year – Secretary of State

Cabo Verde is finalizing preparations for the new health research law to be approved later this year, Secretary of State Evandro Monteiro said Tuesday, stressing that this legislative initiative will boost this health aspect.

The Deputy Secretary of the Minister of Health, Evandro Monteiro, announced this information during the seminar opening ceremony entitled “The BCG vaccine to reduce unplanned absenteeism due to illness of health professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic”, which runs from today to 8th, in the City of Praia.

As he recalled, this vaccine was developed more than 100 years ago for the prevention of pulmonary tuberculosis, stressing that current studies are demonstrating “important” protective parallel effects in some respiratory diseases, including as a preventive reinforcement in COVID-19.

Given the importance of conducting health research in Cabo Verde, he considered that this strand of health is a “fundamental and decisive basis” for the National Health System, established in the Government program.
