Burkina’s Faso Mebo Initiative and Baporo Center Visit Lead Local News


Bobo-dioulasso: This Monday’s Burkinabe newspapers highlight several significant events, including the visit of the Minister of Agriculture, Ismael Sombie, to the Baporo prison and the delivery of equipment to the Faso Mebo presidential initiative. These stories have captured the attention of local media, focusing on infrastructure development and agricultural advancements.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the oldest daily newspaper, L’Observateur Paalga, reported on the handover of 764 pieces of equipment to the national coordinator of the Faso Mebo Presidential Initiative. These pieces of equipment, intended for brigades in the Yaadga, Koulse, Goulmou, and Bankui regions, are aimed at strengthening local infrastructure.



The newspaper Le Pays also covered the delivery of equipment to the Faso Mebo initiative, emphasizing the Head of State’s call for regional governors to involve local populations in infrastructure projects. The President urged governors to convey his vision to grassroots communities and motivate them to participate actively in development efforts. Additionally, the Minister of Infrastructure, Adama Luc Sorgho, has been tasked with providing technical support to the brigades.



L’Observateur Paalga also reported on Minister Ismael Sombie’s visit to the Baporo agricultural penitentiary center, where inmates have sown 130 hectares for the 2025-2026 agricultural season, with an expected production of over 200 tons. Le Pays noted that Minister Sombie has pledged financial support for women’s associations and hullers, along with instructing SONAGESS to purchase the produce to prevent speculation and export.



In Bobo-Dioulasso, the newspaper L’Express du Faso highlighted the experimental cultivation of Chinese millet by the ENAFA of Matourkou. Dr. Issa Wonni, the director general, visited the plots to study production parameters, with plans to extend trials during the dry season.



L’Observateur Paalga also reported on Burkinabe triple jumper Hugues Fabrice Zango’s announcement of his retirement after the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.



In sports, Le Pays covered the final of the Burkina Faso Sports Journalists Association (AJSB) Super Cup, where Rahimo FC claimed victory in the 32nd edition, winning the trophy, medals, and a prize of 5 million CFA francs.
