Ouagadougou: Burkinabe daily newspapers published this Thursday, September 4, 2025, report on a major seizure of prohibited products made by Burkinabe customs, as well as the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
According to Burkina Information Agency, a significant seizure of prohibited products worth more than 60 million CFA francs was reported by L’Observateur Paalga. In July 2025, agents of the Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI) intercepted a vehicle in transit to Mali. Hidden within a regular shipment of 4,530 boxes of tea and chocolates were 712 boxes of prohibited medicines, amounting to nearly 12.5 million tablets, with an estimated value of 36.2 million FCFA.
Le Pays highlighted that these significant seizures reflect the constant vigilance and determination of customs officers in combatting illicit trade flows. The newspaper added that these actions are part of a national effort where each customs unit is tasked with enhancing its presence and efficiency.
Sidwaya reported another operation on August 2 in the Nakambe region, where 99 boxes of prohibited medicines, 766 boxes of herbicide, and 100 plastic mats were seized, totaling an estimated value of approximately 25 million FCFA. The Director General of Customs, Divisional Inspector Yves Kafando, praised the BRI officers’ performance and emphasized the importance of professional solidarity, concerted action, and institutional performance.
In a different note, Burkinabe newspapers also reported on the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people’s war of resistance against Japanese aggression. The Paalga Observer mentioned that the Chinese people achieved this victory after years of fierce resistance, with significant sacrifices: over 35 million deaths, approximately $100 billion in direct economic losses, and $500 billion in indirect economic losses.
