Burkina Faso Launches TIEFO AMORO Institute for Military Education and Innovation

Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo initiated the launch of the Institute of Higher Military Education ”TIEFO AMORO” (IEMS) in Ouagadougou, aimed at developing a national military elite focused on the dual objectives of understanding war and pursuing peace.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized the institute’s mission to deliver higher military education at both the 1st and 2nd levels, contributing to the creation, revision, and application of military doctrines. Mr. Ouedraogo highlighted that this initiative signifies the country’s determination to independently train its military personnel.

The Prime Minister expressed that the Tiefo Amoro Institute is designed to equip officers with the skills needed to foresee and tackle security challenges, such as terrorism in its various manifestations. He added that the institute is envisioned as a center for reflection and innovation, reinforcing the country’s capacity to develop its own defense and security strategies.

In addition to military personnel, the institute will offer specialized modules for senior executives from paramilitary and public administrations, focusing on security issues. From a strategic standpoint, the institute will also be accessible to members of the Alliance of Sahel States (ESA) and other interested allies.

Colonel-Major Celeste Joseph Moussa Coulibaly, the appointed commander of the Institute, stated that the establishment of IEMS aligns with President Captain Ibrahim Traore’s vision to enhance Burkina Faso’s internal capabilities for higher military education. The institute will incorporate the war school, General Staff course, and the national armed forces’ doctrine center.

Colonel-Major Coulibaly described the institute as a hub for strategic military education, innovation, and a pillar of security and defense sovereignty amidst ongoing crises. He pledged to fulfill his duties with honor and dedication.

The ceremony also marked the beginning of the first cohort of the IEMS Staff College, comprising 30 trainees. The event concluded with a tree planting session, symbolizing growth and sustainability in military education and innovation.
