Boa Vista: President of AAI classifies situation of 90 migrants as “delicate and sensitive”

The president of the High Authority for Immigration (AAI) considered the situation of migrants who washed ashore in a pirogue to be “sensitive and delicate”, despite the “good treatment” given by the city council and other institutions.

Carmen Barros made this point after visiting the Pavilhão Seixal, in the city of Sal Rei, where the 90 migrants from the West African coast are located, washed ashore at the Morro Negro lighthouse, in the northern part of the island of Boa Vista, on the 15th de Janeiro, aboard a pirogue, 25 days after leaving Gambia.

“The situation in which they find themselves is very sensitive and delicate, given that most of them are adult men, but there are also women and minors”, he said, noting that humanitarian emergency situations of this kind imply and impress due to the level of vulnerability that they reveal.

According to her, the AAI team came to Boa Vista with some information provided by the local authority, by the social technician of the City Hall, but also by the National Police, through the Directorate of Foreigners and Borders.
