Ouagadougou: The mining company Bissa Gold handed over 90 tons of corn to the affected and internally displaced populations of the commune in Sabce on Friday. For the mine’s community relations manager, Kayaba Kabore, this gesture aims to support communities during this difficult time. “We are at a time when the harvests are not yet ripe. We also know that the affected communities have hosted many internally displaced people. This is why we decided to take action to provide them with shelter while waiting for the harvest,” he said.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Mr. Kabore clarified that this donation is part of a broader program. “This year, 500 tons of food with an estimated value of more than 125 million CFA francs will be distributed in all areas impacted by Bissa Gold,” he added. He noted that these actions are made possible thanks to the commitment of the mine’s managers, including the country director and the general manager.
He finally invited the beneficiary populations to support the company in its activities in order to foster a climate of cooperation and mutual trust. The prefect and president of the Sabce special delegation (PDS), Aristide Bado, who received the donation, welcomed the “significant” support that will help provide relief to beneficiary households. “This support comes at the right time and will help provide relief to populations who are going through a difficult time,” he said, while congratulating the mining company for its regular solidarity actions.
The beneficiaries’ representative, Soumaila Sawadogo, also expressed his gratitude to Bissa Gold officials and assured them that the food will be used wisely. “We reassure donors and local authorities that the food received will be used effectively in our households and in a transparent manner,” he insisted.
