Authorities call for support from the International Organization for Migration to help with expenses for immigrants

The High Authority for Immigration (AAI) and the City Hall of Boa Vista submitted a request to the International Organization for Migration to help with expenses until the process of repatriation of immigrants who arrived in a pirogue.

AAI president, Carmen Barros advanced this information when speaking to the press after the start of the work agenda in Boa Vista with the purpose of dealing with the implementation of the local unit for immigration, which is the representation of the entity on the island, but which develops activities in partnership with the City Hall of Boa Vista.

On January 15, Cape Verdean authorities rescued 90 migrants from the African coast and 2 corpses on board a pirogue that washed up on the coast at the Morro Negro lighthouse, in the northern part of Boa Vista.

Carmen Barros, who had a first meeting with the City Hall of Boa Vista team, indicated that this issue had also become one of the concerns of moving her work schedule to the island.
