In São Domingos, his homeland, the city council held the 3rd edition of the festival “Lembra Nôs Mestri” to remember who was, in the words of the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Abraão Vicente, “a versatile man, multi-instrumentalist, pedagogue, poet and a singer-songwriter who, through the Cape Verdean language, verbalized the way of living and feeling in the independence”.

The municipality that gave the country and the world this poet, author of coladeira, mazurka, mornas, marches, funaná, meringues, salsa and samba wants to continue to elevate Anu Nobu, one of the “great sons of his land” in terms of culture .

“I want to congratulate the Municipality of São Domingos for understanding the dimension of Anu Nobu for São Domingos and Cape Verde. He is probably one of the main builders of a new idiosyncrasy, a new way of seeing Cape Verde with love, with some spirit of verbalizing something we were not used to”.

Fulgêncio da Circumcision Lopes Tavares, better known as Anu Nobu, was born in the Parish of São Nicolau Tolentino, municipality of São Domingos, on January 1, 1933.

He became known as Anu Nobu for being born on the first day of the year. He started composing at a very young age and has written over 400 songs.

With a deep knowledge of string instruments, he left a generation of musicians, among them his two sons Dick D'Anu Nobu and Africano.
