The Akan New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Aspirant, Mr. Mustapha Tassah and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Aspirant and MP for Akan, Mr Yao Gomado are expected to file their nomination forms today, September 9. Mr Frank Worlanyo Adjei, Akan NPP Director of Communications and Mr. Isaac Abavon, Akan NDC Constituency Secretary disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kadjebi in the Oti Region. Mr Tassah, a private Legal Practitioner won the portfolio with 316 votes as against 296 votes secured by his only contender, Mr Awal Rabiu, Akan Constituency Chairman, NPP in a primary held on Saturday, April 26, 2024. The primary has become necessary following the death of the then Akan NPP PC, Alhaji Rashid Bawa on March 14, 2024, in Abuja, Nigeria where he was serving as Ghana's High Commissioner to that country. Mr Yao Gomado, the sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for Akan Constituency, was re-elected with 448 votes as against 332 votes garnered by Nana Dabo and 251 votes polle d by Ahmed Muniru in a primary held on Saturday, May 13, 2023. Mr Gomado, a Marine Engineer, won the Akan Parliamentary seat for the NDC with 19,317 votes, being 58.69 per cent during the December 7, 2020, polls while his closest contender, Alhaji Rashid Bawa secured 13,300 votes, 40.41 per cent. The Electoral Commission's Press Release dated August 1, 2024, announced the filing of Nomination forms for the Elections of President and Member of Parliament from Monday, September 9 to Friday, September 13, 2024, across the country.
