Agricultural Year: Santiago, Fogo and Santo Antão record higher production in the current dry farming campaign – Minister

 

The islands of Santiago, Fogo and Santo Antão have so far recorded higher production in the current dry farming campaign, as said Wednesday, in the City of Praia, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva.

 

“We have three islands with higher production in terms of dry farming campaign – Sao Nicolau, especially in the Fajã / Cachaço location, which currently have a very favorable picture, we can not ignore the island Brava, the island of Maio”, he said.

 

The Minister, who was speaking at a press conference at the Crisis Office meeting on the implementation of the mitigation measures adopted by the Government in the economy, energy and agri-food sectors, stressed that it has been raining on all the islands, but within each one island there has been “important differences” between one area and another.

 

“We hope that between the end of September and the beginning of October it will rain so that we can have an even better situation than what is being designed at the moment,” he said, adding that when there is already a “very good prospect” for pasture production.

 

However, he said that if you look at grain production, the situation differs in several municipalities in the country.
