African Journalists Discover the Moroccan Football Museum in Preparation for the 2025 CAN

Rabat: African journalists, influencers, and artists, including five from Burkina Faso, visited the Moroccan Football Museum on Wednesday as part of an initiative led by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). This visit is part of a broader program designed to showcase the infrastructure selected for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (CAN), scheduled to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Moroccan Football Museum is strategically located in the MaSmora forest in Rabat and represents a collaborative effort between the FRMF and the National Museum Foundation, supported by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The museum, inaugurated on March 21, 2024, serves as a contemporary venue dedicated to preserving and promoting Morocco’s rich football heritage.

The museum’s architecture is modern, featuring VIP lounges, a conference room, a boutique, and a research and documentation center. It offers a permanent exhibition organized into six thematic sections that trace the journey of Moroccan football. These sections focus on the royal vision for sport development, the pioneers of the discipline, national and international achievements, football players, supporters, and Morocco’s role as a welcoming host for competitions and notable personalities.

Museum curator Ms. Oumay Walid stated that the project stemmed from the initiative of FRMF President Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, in collaboration with a scientific committee comprising 22 individuals from the fields of research and journalism. She emphasized that the museum is not only a place of memory but also an educational tool for future generations, illustrating how football has paralleled Morocco’s history and development.

The visit, part of the Future Media initiative, provided participants from various countries, including Burkina Faso, an opportunity to explore this unique African infrastructure. This is one of several promotional activities aimed at highlighting the Kingdom’s assets, such as stadiums, roads, and hotels, in anticipation of hosting the next CAN.
