Filili, one of the most abounding birds of prey in Cabo Verde, with habitat in other West African countries, was chosen to be the mascot Women’s Football League of the West African Football Union (UFOA).
The creation of the mascot for the games which take place until July 30, at the Adérito Sena Stadium, in São Vicente, is by the young biologist Nathalie Melo, 30 years old.
Speaking to Inforpress, Nathalie Melo, who currently holds a PhD in biology in Portugal, explained that the organization asked the mascot be an animal which could represent all countries participating in the UFOA league.
According to the young woman, because she is a biologist and works with birds, she thought about transforming Filili into the mascot of the competition, because she is a species which inhabits all the countries participating in this competition.
