The Minister of Culture said in Mindelo that to have the delegation of the Cabo Verdean Society of Music in São Vicente is a step to consolidate Mindelo as the center of culture and creative industries in the country.
Abraão Vicente made these considerations to presiding over the ceremony of the inauguration of the delegation of the Cabo Verdean Society of Music (SCM) that will serve the island of São Vicente and the islands of Santo Antão and São Nicolau.
According to the Minister, “it is very important” to have a SCM’s office in São Vicente, “where authors can meet, defend their rights and feel there is in fact the defense of copyright”. For Abraão Vicente, the fact this office is located in the Municipal Music School is a perfect marriage because of the importance this institution had in the education of musicians in the island.
In the same vein, the mayor of São Vicente, Augusto Neves, explained that opening this delegation in the music school is “honoring great masters of Cabo Verdean music and many musicians who passed through the Municipal Band”. The mayor also stressed the symbolism of opening the space in August, a month in which “its first two weeks” represent “loud moments of music in São Vicente” because of the events held.
