The Prime Minister (PM) said Thursday that he had found in the fields visited in the countryside of Santiago an “encouraging scenario” and said that consedering the rains recorded this could be a “good agricultural year” between the reasonable and good.
Ulisses Correia e Silva spoke to the press as part of his visit to the North Santiago region, where he toured several agricultural fields in the municipalities of Santa Cruz, São Lourenço dos Órgãos, São Salvador do Mundo, Santa Catarina and Tarrafal, accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva.
As noted, the rains from recent days in the archipelago are signs of “good hope” for agriculture, livestock, and the groundwater will be in greater quantity after almost four years of drought in the country.
“It is a blessing to have a green country, not only here in Santiago, but the other islands are also in the same situation and prospect of a good agricultural year between the reasonable and good,” welcomed the Head of the Government, who nevertheless acknowledged that the situation is not the same in all regions of the country.
However, Ulisses Correia e Silva considered that this year is “much better” than the last few years, referring to the nearly four years of severe drought in the archipelago.
