The Government wants to expand socio-educational centers in the Sal Island and not only, for children leisure-time activities and adolescents in order to avoid their will and stay on the street.
This intention was expressed, Tuesday, by the Minister of Family, Inclusion and Social Development, Fernando Elísio Freire, who is on the island for a three-day visit to find out about the social problems caused by COVID-19.
“For children to be busy after school, to be in the socio-educational centers (…). We have the example of the community centers in Chã de Matias and Terra Boa. That is why we are working with all NGOs, ICCA has this responsibility, and has done a meritorious job”, he stressed.
“Sal is a special island, of course, given the issue of tourism, and access to some easy money can make it difficult in one or the other situation. But what we are doing is to expand the socio-educational centers around the island so that children are busy, after school to be in the socio-educational centers”, he wished.
