Águas do Porto Novo (APN), in Santo Antão, is discussing with competent entities “some measures” aimed at protecting the company’s facilities, which is located next to a forest area, where fires have occurred frequently.
The head of the APN in Porto Novo, Jailton Santos, explained that the company is “very concerned about this situation” and has already proposed to the City Hall of Porto Novo and the Ministry responsible for the environment area the implementation of “some measures” to prevent fires in this area and, consequently, the protection of the desalination unit.
The company, which is currently awaiting the reaction of these entities, advocates the need to proceed, “urgently”, to “pruning” the trees (American acacia) are contiguous to the facilities and also to the construction of an access rail to the inside the forest, which is becoming increasingly dense, Jailton Santos explained.
The access route to the forest would allow, he said, the patrol of this area, where fires have often appeared, probably caused by people who frequent this site, which is located in the city of Porto Novo.
