National Health Director “concerned” about increase in positive cases of COVID-19 in recent weeks

The National Health Director was “concerned” Monday about the increase in positive cases of COVID-19 in Cabo Verde in recent weeks and said this situation is due to the non-compliance of sanitary measures by the population.

Jorge Noel Barreto expressed his concern during the usual press conference held on Mondays to review the epidemiological situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in Cabo Verde.

As recalled last week, the country recorded a difference of 200 new cases and this week the number increased to 300 cases, stating that the situation is getting worse because there is no compliance with the measures issued by the health authorities.

“We have information that there are parties to be held, especially on weekends, not only in the spaces already identified, but also in the neighborhoods people live together, there are parties happening, that is where the problem is,” he said, noting that people have the notion the COVID-19 continues to taking lives and there is a need for the population to protect themselves.
