Government reiterates proposal to extend minimum social pension to all elderly people in vulnerable situations

The Government will award minimum social pension to all elderly people in vulnerable situations and without access to the social security contribution system, the Minister of Family, Inclusion and Development reaffirmed Tuesday.

Fernando Elísio Freire spoke to journalists following the holding, in the city of Praia, of a meeting with Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) working in the area of the elderly, to collect contributions for the elaboration of the national policy for the elderly.

Fernando Elísio Freire said the elderly are at the main point of the policies and ensured that everything is being done by this executive to ensure a dignified aging to the people who in their working life contributed for the development of the country.

“Unfortunately, in our country most of the old people are still outside the social security system. That is why we have the non-contributory regime, where the objective we have in this legislature is to extend the minimum social pension to all elderly people in vulnerable situations and who do not have access to the social security contribution system”, he said.
