COVID-19: Sal is the municipality with the highest rate of vaccinated population – North Santiago with weak participation

The Sal Island is in the top list of municipalities where people received at least one dose of vaccine with 46% of the adult population, followed by São Vicente with 26%, Boa Vista with 23 and Praia 15.6%.

These data were released on Monday afternoon at a press conference by the national director of Health, who placed the municipalities of Ribeira Brava (41%), the Tarrafal de São Nicolau (39%), Paul (33%) and Brava (30) among those who vaccinated their adult population the most.

On the contrary, in the North Santiago region vaccination rates are very low with Tarrafal registering 6 percent (%), São Miguel 7%, Santa Catarina 7.5%, São Salvador do Mundo 8.3% and Santa Cruz 10.8%.

São Lourenço dos Órgãos appears as the only municipality in the countryside with the rate “a little higher”, 22%, Jorge Noel Barreto reported.

In this regard, Jorge Barreto stressed that this population is unprotected, when “vaccines are available”, and called for the population from North Santiago to “adhere to vaccination without fear of being a safe vaccine”.
