Covid-19: Government strengthens vaccination teams on the islands of Sal and Boa Vista

The Government decided to reinforce the teams assigned to vaccination in Sal and Boa Vista, with a view to speeding up the vaccination of the eligible population of the two islands, as they are the main tourist islands in the country.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Council of Ministers and announced at a press conference today by the minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Parliamentary Affairs, Filomena Gonçalves.

According to the official, the island of Sal now has five more teams and Boa Vista four more, with each team comprising two nurses and two registrars.

“It is a priority to accelerate the vaccination of the eligible population (18 years and over) of the two islands in order to allow the resumption of tourism with greater safety in health terms”, he maintained, indicating that, according to the projections of the National Institute of Statistics (INE ), Sal has 28 thousand people eligible for vaccine against covid and Boa Vista 15 thousand.

The Government’s objective, as the minister said, is to vaccinate by the end of July 2021 the entire eligible population of the two islands and guarantee immunization in order to allow economic recovery, including tourism, which represents the large percentage of Cabo’s GDP. Green.

Data from the Ministry of Health point to the daily vaccination on the island of Sal above the expected average, with the immunization this Thursday, 17, of a total of 1,247 people and a cumulative 5,359 in four days.

The latest data show that nationally there are already at least 54,970 people vaccinated with at least one dose of vaccines.

The country has in stock about 200,000 doses to be administered until August, according to forecasts by the Minister of Health, Arlindo Rosário.
