Chinese ambassador addresses Taiwan issue in meeting with the Cabo Verdean Parliament leader

The Chinese ambassador, Xu Jie, met today with the president of the Cabo Verdean Parliament, Austelino Correia, with whom he addressed, among other issues, the issue of Taiwan, which recently received the visit leader of the United States Congress, Nancy Pelosi.

Speaking to the press, on the way out of the meeting with Austelino Correia, the head of the Chinese diplomatic representation in Praia said that the president of the National Assembly transmitted to him the Cabo Verdean parliamentary house’s position.

However, hours earlier, the Chinese diplomat was greeted by the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, but away from the journalists’ spotlight. Later, on his official Facebook page, the Head of State announced that he had received the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China at his request, and the two spoke on the “tension currently in that region” [Taiwan Region of China].

“Cabo Verde has always supported the principle of One China and advocates dialogue, negotiated settlement of conflicts and peace,” the President of the Republic wrote.
