The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, visits, on November 7 and 8, the military detachment and the Coast Guard naval unit, permanently installed to cover the Fogo and Brava region .
A press release sent to Inforpress, indicates that the installation of a military detachment and the permanent placement of a Coast Guard vessel on Brava Island was the result of a “commitment” by the Government of Cape Verde, through a study by a commission created that ensured the effectiveness of this measure. Therefore, the head of government put forward the budget for this purpose.
On this visit, in which the Minister of State and National Defense, Janine Lélis will accompany the Chief Executive, are scheduled to visit the Coast Guard military detachment, in the city of Nova Sintra, and a visit to the Coast Guard Naval Unit, in the Port of Furna.
This action, as explained in the note, results from the implementation of the Coast Guard Strategic Development Plan (2017-2027) approved and in force with the aim of ensuring greater surveillance and inspection of illicit activities that may occur in the region. In addition, to reinforce the country’s ability to carry out more search and rescue operations and support Civil Protection, as well as medical evacuations.
