Brava: Island fishmongers “call for” reopening of the local fish market

A fishmongers group from Brava Island are calling for the reopening of the local fish market in order to “dignify” the profession and “provide better sales results” and better hygiene conditions.

The fish market, located at the the city centre of Nova Sintra, has already been rebuilt and is already “totally ready”, as announced by Adilson Meireles, one of the fish men who spoke to Inforpress on behalf of the group.

It is in this market that about thirty fishmongers sellers, from the localities of Furna, Lomba and Fajã D’Água, to place their goods, looking for the “livelihood of their families”.

Adilson Meireles, a fishmonger from Lomba area, said that for more than two years the market was under construction, but the work has already been completed and this space has not yet delivered to the fishmongers to offers them “more dignity and better sanitation and hygiene conditions”.
